Local PPS Announces Purchasing Prices for 'Post-FIT' Solar Electricity

Chichibu PPS (Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture), a local PPS (power producer and supplier), announced a service of purchasing surplus solar electricity generated with "post-FIT" solar power generation (PV) facilities, for which the purchasing period of the feed-in tariff (FIT) policy has ended, July 4, 2019.

Chichibu PPS will start to accept applications for the service, "Chichibu Eco Supporter Plan," from up to 100 people July 16, 2019.

Chichibu PPS will offer two kinds of plans having different purchasing prices and contract periods. The purchasing price of "Plan A" is ¥8.7/kWh, and its contract period is from the contract date to the last day of the fiscal year.

The purchasing price of "Plan B" is ¥8.5/kWh, and local money worth ¥3,000 (approx US$21.8) is given at the time of making a contract, which is equivalent to ¥0.5/kWh per year, making the Plan B seem more profitable than the Plan A. Its contract period is two years from the contract date.

Electricity purchased is locally consumed in the Chichibu region. Chichibu PPS plans to reduce CO2 emission factor by about 22% by, for example, using electricity generated by waste power generation for the region. The company expects to further reduce the factor by about 3% with the post-FIT PV facilities.

The local money can be used at about 460 stores in Chichibu City. It can contribute to realizing a low-carbon society in the region and energizing the local economy.

The service is targeted at less-than-10kW PV facilities in Saitama Prefecture and Tokyo (excluding islands). Electricity fee is annually transferred to designated bank accounts. In addition to the two plans, Chichibu PPS intends to start to accept applications for other plans such as a plan combining customer's power supply and purchase of surplus electricity in the future.
