Yuzawa Chinetsu KK, which is invested in by Electric Power Development Co Ltd (J-Power), etc, built a geothermal power plant with a rated output of 46.199MW in Yuzawa City, Akita Prefecture, Japan, and started operation May 20, 2019.
This is the first time in 23 years that a geothermal power plant with an output higher than 10MW has started operation in Japan.
The plant is expected to generate about 335,000,000kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the amount consumed by 90,000 households, per year. The FIT tariff set for the plant is ¥26/kWh.
For the geothermal power generation facilities, Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corp provided engineering, procurement and construction services.
