Orix Begins Construction of 6.5MW Binary Geothermal Power Plant in Hokkaido

Orix Corp announced Aug 8, 2019, that it will start the construction of a 6.5MW binary geothermal power plant in Minamikayabe District, Hakodate City, Hokkaido, Japan.

Orix aims to complete the construction of the plant, "Minamikayabe Geothermal Power Plant (tentative name)," and start commercial operation in the early spring of 2022.

The plant is expected to generate up to about 56,940,000kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the amount consumed by 18,250 households, per year. After using only the heat of hot water, it will be returned to the underground.
