SB Energy will build mega (large-scale) solar power plants in Gunma and Miyagi prefectures, Japan.
SB Energy (Minato-ku, Tokyo) is a company that is affiliated with the Softbank group and runs a renewable energy-related business.
Softbank Gunma Agatsuma Naganohara Solar Park
SB Energy announced Oct 3, 2019, that it will build "Softbank Gunma Agatsuma Naganohara Solar Park" in Naganohara-machi, Gunma Prefecture. On about 4.1ha of privately-owned mountain forest/farmland (for which a permission to change the land category has already been obtained), a solar power plant with a total solar panel capacity of about 2.1MW and a grid capacity of about 1.9MW will be built.
The plant is expected to generate about 2,572,700kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the amount consumed by 715 households, per year. Electricity generated at the plant will be sold at a price of ¥32/kWh.
SB Energy will not use an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor and place separate orders by itself instead. The company aims to start operation of the plant in October 2020. It has not yet decided manufactures of solar panels and PV inverters.
Miyagi Osato Solar Park
SB Energy also announced Oct 8, 2019, that it has started construction of "Miyagi Osato Solar Park" in Osato-cho, Miyagi Prefecture, by investing in the project in collaboration with Total Solar International. Total Solar International is a subsidiary of Total, a France-based major energy company.
On about 69.4ha of publicly- and privately-owned mountain forest, a solar power plant with a total solar panel capacity of about 51.6MW and a grid capacity of about 37.5MW will be built.
The plant is expected to generate about 56,400,000kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to the amount consumed by 15,600 households, per year. Electricity generated at the plant will be sold at a price of ¥32/kWh.
The solar panel and PV inverter employed for the plant are products of SunPower Corp and Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corp (TMEIC), respectively. The power producer for the plant is Miyagi Osato Solar Park GK (SPC: special purpose company). The investment ratios of Total Solar International and SB Energy are 90% and 10%, respectively. SB Energy aims to start operation of the plant in fiscal 2021.
