Appi Geothermal Energy Corp started construction of a 14.9MW geothermal power plant in Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, and had a ceremony to pray for safe construction of the plant Sept 6, 2019.

Appi Geothermal Energy (Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture) is a joint venture formed by Mitsubishi Materials Corp (MMC), Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company Inc (MGC) and Electric Power Development Co Ltd (J-Power). It aims to start operation of the plant, "Appi Geothermal Power Plant," in April 2024.
