Ishikari City to Store Solar Electricity as Hydrogen

Ishikari City (Hokkaido) will establish an energy supply system combining a solar power generation (PV) system and a hydrogen storage system.

The energy supply system will convert electricity generated with a PV system in the city into hydrogen and store it. And it supplies electricity when the PV system cannot generate enough electricity due to bad weather, during nighttime hours, etc. The city aims to introduce the system in fiscal 2022.

The PV system will have an output of 120kW and is expected to generate 90,000kWh of electricity per year. The construction of the system is scheduled to begin in fiscal 2020.
