Solar Frontier, Chinese Firm Team for Building Material-integrated Solar Cell

Solar Frontier KK (Minato-ku, Tokyo) and China-based Triumph Science and Technology Group announced Nov 18, 2019, that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the development of a building material-integrated solar cell using CIS compound semiconductor thin-film technology.

Based on the conclusion of the memorandum of understanding, they started a preliminary survey on product development.

The two companies aim to utilize the building material-integrated solar cell in the Chinese market in cooperation with Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd, which is the parent company of Solar Frontier. The results of examination based on the survey will be announced according to its progress.

Triumph Science and Technology Group is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China National Building Material Group and produces substrate glass for solar panels, glass for construction, substrate glass for displays, etc as well as silicon-based and thin-film solar cells, zirconia and industrial robots.

In its renewable energy-related business, Triumph Science and Technology Group provides EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services mainly for solar power plants. It has built 345.5MW of mega (large-scale) solar power plants in China and, in overseas markets, it has received contracts for 796MW of solar power plants, it said.
