JWA Begins to Provide Surplus Electricity Prediction Service for 'Post-FIT' PV Systems
Japan Weather Association (JWA, general incorporated foundation) announced Nov 26, 2019, that it has started to provide a service to predict the amount of surplus electricity for "post-FIT" residential solar power generation (PV) facilities, for which the FIT-based purchasing period has expired.
It is a service targeted at power retailers and resource aggregators, which purchase post-FIT surplus electricity. As a starter, JWA launched a service of predicting the output of PV system on a full scale.
Post-FIT surplus electricity, which has an environmental value of zero CO2 emission factor, is expected to be actively purchased and utilized. On the other hand, for economically and effectively using surplus electricity, business operators, in their daily operations, need to predict the amount of surplus electricity produced by each household with a high accuracy in advance.
The amount of post-FIT surplus electricity is calculated by subtracting the amount consumed in house from the amount of solar electricity generated. However, it fluctuates depending on temperature, solar irradiation, etc.
This time, JWA developed the surplus electricity prediction service specialized for "post-FIT" households by combining the technologies of its existing "solar irradiation/PV output prediction (Synfos-Solar)" and "power demand prediction" services.
Predictions are made by inputting the conditions of residential rooftop PV system, power demand, etc, and considering regional characteristics. The output of PV system, power demand and the amount of surplus electricity are predicted for the service area of each power company or each prefecture every 30 minutes (up to 78 hours in advance). And they are transmitted via the internet.
JWA plans to launch the services of predicting power demand and the amount of surplus electricity by March 2020.
