Meiji Machine Co Ltd announced Dec 3, 2019, that it will release "Esnon Hole," a method to attach aluminum mounting systems of solar power generation (PV) facilities, in 2020.

With the new method, PV facilities can be installed even on the roofs of factories and offices where it is difficult to install PV facilities because anchor bolts cannot be installed due to permanent load or the small slab thickness (concrete thickness) of flat roof.

The Esnon Hole is a method that fixes mounting systems by using elastic epoxy adhesive. On its website, Meiji Machine announced the results of a quality/performance test that Japan Testing Center for Construction Materials (JTCCM, general incorporated foundation) conducted to examine the safety and durability of the Esnon Hole.

As a result of a tensile test in which adhesive was applied to four 20mm points, a tensile strength of 4.0KN was confirmed. It is a high enough strength, compared with the tensile strength per metal fitting with a construction method that fixes the longer side of a solar panel at four points (2.0-3.0KN), according to Meiji Machine.

In an aged deterioration test of the adhesive, a specimen was cured for 14 days at a temperature of 23±2° and a relative temperature of 50±10%. Then, its tensile strength, shear strength and splitting tensile strength were measured by dipping it underwater for 1,000 hours. As a result, Meiji Machine confirmed that they were in acceptable ranges from a design point of view.

Also, after curing, 10 cycles of cooling and heating (for three hours) and dipping the specimen underwater for 168 hours, Meiji Machine measured its strength and found that it is in an acceptable range.

Meiji Machine plans to provide the Esnon Hole for various needs including the installation of self-consumption-type PV systems for emergency use at schools, facilities of local governments, etc. Also, it will sell the Esnon Hole via solar panel manufacturers and major engineering/construction companies in the aim of achieving sales of ¥1 billion (approx US$9.19 million) in the first year.
