Venture Firm Detects Cracks in Solar Panels by Using Drone

Trust Smith & Co (Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo), a venture firm spun off from the University of Tokyo, announced Sept 24, 2019, that it has developed a system to detect cracks in solar panels.

It is an AI (artificial intelligence) system that detects cracks by using a drone. Trust Smith developed the system in cooperation with a major developer of solar power plants.

Trust Smith deals with both robot-related AI technologies such as autonomous drones and image recognition-related AI technologies. With those AI technologies, it became possible to detect cracks in solar panels with a low cost and high accuracy, the company said.
