Prominet Power Co Ltd announced Feb 12, 2020, that it has acquired a solar power plant with a solar panel capacity of 63.2MW and a grid capacity of 42.8MW.
Prominet Power (Minato-ku, Tokyo) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas Co Ltd. The mega (large-scale) solar power plant, "Annaka City Solar Power Plant," is one of the largest-scale solar power plants in the Kanto region of Japan.
Prominet Power acquired the plant through Annaka Solar LLC, a special purpose company (SPC) that was run by Asia Pacific Land (Japan) Ltd (Minato-ku, Tokyo).
The mega solar plant was built on the site of a planned golf course in Annaka City, Gunma Prefecture, and started operation in January 2020. The site of the plant measures 136.98ha, of which 71.53ha was forestland. About 92.1ha of land was developed, and the amounts of embankment and cut earth are both 3,277,000m3. Also, three balancing reservoirs having a total capacity of 62,770m3 were constructed.
Toshiba Plant Systems & Services Corp (Yokohama City) provided EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services. Prominet Power did not disclose the names of the manufactures of the solar panel and PV inverter employed for the plant.
As a result the acquisition of the power plant, the total capacity of renewable energy-based power plants that Tokyo Gas is operating in Japan exceeded 100,000kW (100MW), according to Prominet Power. Prominet Power expects to use the plants as its own power sources after the end of the FIT-based purchasing period, planning to provide environmentally-valuable power sources that eliminate about 5.6t of CO2 per year to its customers.
In the "Compass2030" midterm management plan, which the Tokyo Gas group announced in November 2019, it set a goal of dealing with 5,000,000kW (5GW) of renewable energy-based power sources in and outside Japan.
