Orix Auto Corp (Minato-ku, Tokyo) will introduce 46 units of a new (solar panel-equipped) model of its "mobile office car."
The company announced Feb 28, 2020, that it will offer them in the "Orix Truck Rental" commercial vehicle/truck rental service at all of its 60 bases.
The mobile office car is a special vehicle that was developed based on Nissan Motor Co Ltd's "NV200" van. It has special equipment so that it can be used as a satellite office. Specifically, the van comes with a retractable desk, chair and other office equipment as well as a sub-battery (backup storage battery), and electricity can be used even when the engine is stopped. Also, it has AC (alternating-current) 100V power outlets, USB ports, etc, enabling to use a personal computer and other devices.
The mobile office car was developed for improving the work efficiency of employees who spend much time driving a car especially in rural areas and started to be rented in 2016. As the need for renting it grows among businesses that are pushing forward with the "work-style reform," Orix Auto has thus far increased the number of mobile office cars to 273, about 170% larger than in 2018.
The new model announced this time is equipped with a 215W solar panel on the roof. As a result, it became possible to charge the battery not only at the time of driving the vehicle and by using an external power source but also by using solar electricity. According to Orix Auto, while the previous model of the mobile office car can power the air conditioner for about 1.5 hours when the engine is stopped, the new model can power the air conditioner for about 2.5 hours when the engine is not in operation.
The basic rental fees (excluding tax) of the previous and new solar panel-equipped models are ¥19,000 and ¥19,500, respectively, for 24 hours of rental. Orix Auto calculates exact fees for individual cases in consideration of rental period and the number of vehicles to be rented. Also, the company can offer a printer, scanner, wireless LAN, etc for additional fees.
