Kanagawa Prefecture and Seven & i Holdings Co Ltd concluded an "agreement on cooperation concerning the promotion of SDGs" to cooperate in the aim of achieving SDGs (sustainable development goals) April 17, 2019.
The prefecture and the company will conduct verification tests, etc for five items including local production/consumption of energy.
Based on the agreement, Seven-Eleven Japan Co Ltd will carry out a verification test of a storage battery system using used batteries of electric vehicles (EVs) in the summer of 2019. Solar panels and reused batteries of Nissan Motor Co Ltd's "Leaf" EV will be installed at about 10 stores in Kanagawa Prefecture.
By storing electricity generated during daylight hours and using it at night, Seven-Eleven Japan will reduce the power consumption of each store and strengthen its function as a local infrastructure at the time of disaster.
The kind of solar panels and the capacity of reused batteries to be installed at the stores have not been decided yet. But Kanagawa Prefecture and Seven & i Holdings aim to reduce the amount of CO2 emissions by 20%. Also, Leaf EVs will be used as commercial vehicles of management consultants, and a recycling model will be tested by using the rechargeable batteries of the EVs.
Moreover, the prefecture and the company will reduce plastic waste by integrating and reducing plastic bags, prevent diseases by using the "beauty24" application distributed by Seibu Holdings Inc and promote "diversity" and "inclusion" aimed at inclusive society through performances for the understanding of internship, employment and workplace.
