75MW Biomass Power Plant to Be Built in Hyogo

Osaka Gas Co Ltd, Gas and Power Co Ltd (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas) and Kyuden Mirai Energy Co Inc announced March 7, 2019, that they will build a 75MW biomass power plant combusting only biomass in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.

As fuel, the plant, "Hirohata Biomass Power Plant," uses imported wood chips and palm shells as well as wood chips produced in Japan. Electricity generated at the plant will be sold to The Kansai Electric Power Co Inc (KEPCO) at a price of ¥24/kWh. The plant is scheduled to start operation in August 2023.
