Hitachi Construction Machinery Co Ltd announced March 19, 2019, that Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery Company Pvt Ltd (THCM) has started to use solar electricity at its Kharagpur Works (manufacturing plant) in West Bengal State, India.

THCM is a consolidated subsidiary of Hitachi Construction Machinery. It sells construction machines, provides services related to them and manufactures and sells parts of construction machines in India.

THCM leased part of the site of the manufacturing plant to a local solar power producer to install solar power generation facilities. As a result, in fiscal 2019, it became possible to provide 7,000MWh of renewable energy-based electricity, which is equivalent to about 30% of the power consumption of the plant.
